The Reverend Dr. Lauren Artress is the President and Founder of Veriditas ~ The Voice of the Labyrinth Movement. Veriditas is committed to reintroducing the labyrinth in its many forms as a spiritual tool. Author of Walking a Sacred Path: Rediscovering the Labyrinth as a Spiritual Tool,
The Sand Labyrinth Kit and The Sacred Path Companion, Lauren travels extensively offering workshops and lectures on the use of the labyrinth. Her personal focus is on creating group events that nurture the connection between the human spirit and the Divine. One of her most remarkable programs is a pilgrimage, Walking a Sacred Path, a series of one-week seminars held annually at Chartres Cathedral in Chartres, France.
Among the various programs which she has initiated are Pilgrimage Retreats held on weekends, twice yearly at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco; the Women's Dream Quest, an overnight event for women, held in Grace Cathedral and the Labyrinth Facilitator Training, two-day intensive workshop for those desiring to learn how to introduce the practice of walking the labyrinth to others. Taking That Creative Leap ~ Navigating A Life Transition, a five-day small group process held at retreat centers around the country and is designed especially for those who are making life transitions.
Dr. Artress is a masterful speaker and workshop leader who articulates the spiritual path to those seeking a glimpse of the Divine. Her content inspires and motivates through people through stories, poems and life experiences. Her lecture topics include: The Mystical Path of Hildegard of Bingen, Finding the Grail Castle: Opening the Divine Imagination, Healing Your Church-hurt Soul, Walking your Talk, Quickening the Spirit and How to work with your Shadow.
An ordained Episcopal priest, Dr. Artress was Canon Pastor at Grace Cathedral from 1986 to 1992. She served as Canon for Special Ministries until August 2004 and was made Honorary Canon in May of 2004. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Special Education from Ohio State University, and a Master of Education from Princeton Theological Seminary. She received her analytic training in Object Relations and Systems Theory at the Blanton-Peale Graduate Institute of the Institute of Religion and Health in New York City. Her Doctor of Ministry degree in Pastoral Psychology was granted in 1986 from Andover Newton Theological School, Boston, Massachusetts. She has been awarded an honorary Doctor of Philosophy from the California Institute of Integral Studies, and is a recipient of the 2002 Gandhi, King, Ikeda Award, presented by Morehouse College of Atlanta, Georgia.
She is a Diplomate in the American Association for Pastoral Counselors, a member of Spiritual Directors International, a Clinical Member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapists, a licensed psychotherapist in the State of California, and serves on the Editorial Board for Presence Magazine created by Spiritual Directors International.
